A classically trained pianist based in his hometown of Antwerp, Belgium, 23-year-old producer Alex Lustig is making his name heard in the hip-hop world, having recently created hypnotic trap beats for French Montana and OVO’s Baka Not Nice. After social media networking led to credits for Young Thug, Machine Gun Kelly, Dizzy Wright, and SonReal, Lustig slowed down his overseas collaborations to focus on his own vision. The instrumentals he would share were influenced by hip-hop, the club sounds of London and Paris, and the ambient music he found in high school as an antidote for his panic attacks.
He has since shown a penchant for lush beats that glide somewhere between hip-hop and indie electronic, brimming with an air of tranquility. His early solo work has garnered support from diverse outlets like Mixmag, ThisSongIsSick, Majestic, Billboard, and HotNewHipHop.
Following the run of successful vocal collabs like “No More” (with Australia’s Akacia, and New York’s OnCue), and a return to the rap game, Lustig has released his most polished work yet with his new Sense EP. The 6-track release, featuring Swedish-Iranian R&B singer Ayelle (“Flaws”) and German electronic vocalist NOVAA (“Surreal”) is an impressive summation of his young career.
